Food Series
This series draws inspiration from American pop art, merging the indulgence of food with elements of pop culture. It prompts contemplation on our relationship with food, elevating it to the status of pop culture. Simultaneously, it evokes a sense of guilt or shame, challenging viewers to reflect on the significance attached to what we consume.
Abstracts
These paintings are created in a much different process than my figurative oil paintings. For me, they reflect my mood and the craft of making something tactile, not just a pretty picture.
After establishing texture, mood and color on the canvas, I create the shapes and composition of each painting. The shapes and configuration are inspired from both man-made and natural surfaces, and how they interact together. I have drawn inspiration from the shapes that a glacier makes when it’s melting, the texture and cracks of concrete, and the surface of the land from a birds eye view. Lately, I feel like the abstracts have provided me with a sense of peace in this unsettled world.
